Hero of Blackpool Resort Family Recognised by the House of Commons9th of September, 2020
We had a lovely surprise today, when a letter from the House of Commons arrived for one of our Blackpool Resort Family team members. Housekeeping Supervisor Mandy Hall has been awarded the "Hero of Blackpool" certificate in recognition of her incredible volunteer work keeping Blackpool's beaches clean.
Although in the past, litter, debris and sewage made a dip in the water at Blackpool beach a risky choice, in recent years local community groups have dedicated their time to keeping the beaches clean and safe for visitors. Mandy and her team of volunteers offer their free time every week picking up litter and other debris as part of the Big Blackpool Beach Clean.
Mandy and her team of volunteers have done an amazing job, with Blackpool South beach being awarded the Blue Flag again in 2020. The Blue Flag is an international award scheme which acts as a guarantee to tourists that a beach they are visiting is one of the best in the world - a real achievement for such a busy resort beach.
Along with her certificate, Mandy also received a personal letter from Scott Benton, Member of Parliament for Blackpool South, thanking her for all of the great work she does organising beach cleans in Blackpool. He said "this is especially important in the current climate as our beaches have been busier than usual".
Stuart King, owner and Managing Director of Blackpool Resort Family said:
"We are extremely proud of Mandy and all of the hard work she does in her free time to keep Blackpool's beaches clean and safe for our guests. Since we re-opened our holiday apartments and holiday homes in Blackpool on 4th July 2020, we have seen many tourists choosing to holiday in the UK rather than abroad, so the beaches have been very busy. I am delighted that Mandy has received recognition from Parliament for her efforts - she truly deserves the title Hero of Blackpool!"
